CE vs ALI Certification for Automotive Lifts

CE marking and Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) certification are different systems and should not be treated as interchangeable. All Olympic lift models are CE-certified. Olympic’s 2PAS-10 is also ALI certified; ALI certification is model-specific and does not automatically apply to every lift sold by a company.

Quick answer

Item CE marking ALI certification
Primary market context European Economic Area product-conformity requirements North American automotive-lift safety certification program
What buyers should verify The exact product documentation and declaration of conformity The exact model in the current ALI directory and the gold label on the delivered lift
Does it identify country of manufacture? No No; certification applies to the listed model and configuration
Olympic status All Olympic lift models are CE-certified The 2PAS-10 is Olympic’s ALI-certified model

What CE marking means

The European Commission explains that CE marking is the manufacturer’s declaration that a product meets the applicable European legal requirements. It is not a statement that the product was manufactured in Europe, and it is not the same as approval by an EU authority. Read the European Commission’s CE-marking guidance.

What ALI certification means

ALI’s lift-certification program applies to individual automotive-lift models. ALI states that every currently certified lift is listed in its online directory and bears the applicable gold certification label. A company having one certified model does not mean every model from that company is certified. Verify the exact brand, model number, load rating and configuration in the ALI Directory of Certified Lifts.

How to verify an Olympic lift

  1. Write down the complete model number from the product page, quote and identification plate.
  2. For an ALI-certified purchase, search the current ALI directory for that exact model and configuration.
  3. Confirm the delivered lift bears the appropriate certification label.
  4. Use the current manual and model-specific product drawing for installation and operating requirements.
  5. Ask the local building authority what listing, permit and inspection rules apply at the installation address.

Olympic 2PAS-10

The Olympic 2PAS-10 is a 10,000 lb two-post asymmetric lift and Olympic’s ALI-certified model. Certification does not replace vehicle-fit or site-fit checks. Before ordering, confirm lifting-point reach, vehicle weight and balance, ceiling and bay dimensions, concrete, electrical service and any required adapters.
